Crazy adventure part 3

Daughter woke up around 1030 hrs and so I sent her downstairs to "hang out" with papa and he okayed me to head back to bed since I didn't sleep at night being that I drove all night.

I woke with about 45 min remaining in my mom's shift and then grabbed the little tyke and headed to go surprise "nana". When we got to the store I did a bit of grocery shopping and then headed towards the cashiers checkouts. Unfortunately she was on express which means every customer wants to go through her because it's usually the fastest lane.

I tried to keep out of her line of vision but I also wanted to stop ppl from going in her lane because I knew that as soon as she saw us she would stop working and leave that person hanging.

I ended up coming out from behind the banana stand that I was hiding behind when there was just one woman left and she was ALMOST finished her order

To say that she was SHOCKED is an understatement!

She first saw the little tyke and she did a double take - then she like jumped up and down and it was almost like she squealed with glee. She stopped the lady's order and came around her till to come give us a hug.

She was soooooooooooo shocked that she started crying, apologizing to the lady for not completing her order. Lady said she didn't mind, she would have done the same thing if her daughter did the same thing that i did. The lady actually teared up as well. It was awesome and was glad that I kept it a complete secret and surprised her like I did.

Afterwards we did a bit of grocery shopping and then went back to the house to check on my dad because heaven forbid we leave him alone for more than 5 hrs --> or at least that's the way my mom was thinking!

I phoned around and let everyone know that I was in town and that we would have a huge family dinner the next day. Then I headed up to my BFF's workplace - a nursing home - to surprise her next.

When I got there it was dinner time so at least I didn't have to wonder around the nursing home lost. It only took me several dinner room areas to find her. When she saw me she didn't even seem shocked which suprrised me more than anything. Afterwards she told me that she was shocked but that she was so exhausted (she's 4 months preggo ATM) that her brain was on auto mode.

Then I headed back to the house to have a bite to eat and a couple of people popped into the house to visit. About 1100hrs BFF called and said that she was done work and asked me if I wanted to head to her place to see her new digs (she bought a house about a month earlier so I was excited to go see it). I had already put the kiddo to bed and took dad's cell in case kiddo woke up. Of course seeing your BFF is sooooooooo different in person than it is over the phone and we had so much catching up to do. We were sooooo chatty that he didn't realize the time flying by and when I looked at the clockm it was already 0300 and I jumped up and said that I would head out seeing as we both had to get up early. But not surprisingly we got held up at the door chatting some more and by the time I actually walked out her door it was 0400. Lets just say that I slept good that night!

The rest of my visit was the same - lots of visitors and lots of late nights (tho that was the latest).

All in all it was an awesome vacation and wish I lived closer where I could just get in my car and go and visit.

Crazy adventure - part 2

I drive a 2009 Honda Civic - my car has this really cool feature - the speedometer is electronic and has the ability to go between kilometers/hr & miles/hr - which is awesome! Once in Michigan I changed my speedometer to mph so that I knew how fast I was driving.

To be completely honest I was travelling 77 mph in a 70 mph and so when another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction started to slow down while approaching an emergency vehicle only U-turn spot between the divided lanes I was suspicious that it was a police vehicle and so I started to slow down and moved into the other lane (just in case it wasn't a police vehicle I was being friendly by allowing this person to complete their u-turn without having to wait for me to pass).

But once I was at the u-turn spot the other vehicle lit up and sure enough it was a police vehicle. Immediately I pulled over to the side of the road and pressed my special button to put it back into kph. here's how the conversation went down when the officer came to my window...

officer - hello miss, you were going awful fast. Do you know how fast you were driving?

me - about 122-123 kph

officer - what's that in mph?

me - I don't know officer. My car doesn't show me in mph only kph. So I just approximated my speed.

officer - Where were you going in such a hurry?

me - my father was hurt a couple days ago so I'm going to see him and make sure that he's ok since I'm a nurse and I'm not sure that I trust that the healthcare ppl are looking after him properly. (Said totally because cops generally respect nurses and see them as equals and those who will care for ppl)

officer - ok well license & registration

About 5 min later....

officer - (looking into my car) you should have a button that allows you to make your speedometer into mph...

me - really officer, I didn't know that (totally did but wasn't about to admit it!)

officer - finds button and presses it which did nothing.

me - no officer that didn't do anything

officer - presses it again

me - nope, nothing

officer - presses it AGAIN

me - I don't know officer, it's not doing anything

officer - this time he presses it for a bit longer & TADA it changes

me - wow, that's pretty cool

officer - well make sure that you use this as you travel. And please slow down.

me - oh I certainly will officer. Then he hands me back my license & registration.

Honestly I was thinking that when he pulled me over it was like my third strike for this trip and I was now out. I was shitting in my pants because how the hell was I going to tell my hubby that not only did I fuck up the car but that I was also caught for speeding. That certainly would NOT be a pleasant conversation.

Off I went to head across the border and to my parents house where I went in with the number code for the back door. I arrived at 0530 hrs and made sure to hide my car behind the neighbors big ass truck. Of course my dad was sleeping on the couch. Their stupid dog has a collar that jangles so of course it woke up my dad. I stashed my shoes & jacket in the closet and made sure there was no hint that I was there. I told Dad to keep me coming a secret and that i would try to surprise my mom before she went off to work at 1000 hrs.

Unfortunately I didn't wake up in time and off mom went to work. Stay tuned to part 3 to hear the rest

What a crazy adventure I had - part 1

My last post was rather harsh on my mom - I love her but totally didn't see her point about how she needed to "care" for my dad who has a broken FOOT....

On Tuesday just before little tyke's gymnastics lesson, hubby calls me and asks me if I want to go to my parents and take little tyke with me and celebrate her birthday up there since mom and auntie would be missing little tyke's birthday (rather the whole point why they were coming down here)... so I said YES!!!!!!!!!!! Totally excited I was. It was something that had crossed my mind but wasn't about to bring up to hubby seeing that he hates when I go up there since it's not cheap and I ALWAYS end up spending more than I really should. So I was totally pumped when he brought this idea up, I wasn't about to turn it down.

So off I went packing and making sure that I brought the stuff we really needed and not over pack (as I often do!) and away little tyke and I went after gymnastics (and a late dinner with hubby). I got on the road at approx. 2130hrs.

when I was leaving the house I took the passport folder out of the middle console in the car and put it into the holder of the driver side door - that way I didn't have to lift the console (which little tyke usually puts her feet on when she falls asleep in the car) and chance waking the sleeping kiddo. And figured that I would have easier access to it.

Since I knew that I would be going into the US as it's faster to get to my hometown that way I called hubby and asked him to transfer money into the US account online and I would stop by our bank before heading out of town. Unfortunately my bank ATM didn't register the transfer right away and when I called hubby an hour later was elated to find out that the transfer did register and that when I got to the US border city that I could find a bank there and withdraw the american money. Hubby gave me directions to the closest bank in that city so at least I knew where to go as our GPS broke a couple months ago.

About 2 hrs into the drive I hit rain (and it's dark) and all of a sudden I hit something (still don't know what exactly I hit because I didn't see anything) and hear the "thump, thump, thump" - which I thought was a blown tire. I pulled to the side of the road and get out in the pouring rain to find out that the plastic holding my front end together had ripped off and it was still connected in the driver's side wheel well. I was of course FREAKING OUT thinking to myself how the HELL am I going to get this off?!

Of course I had no cell coverage unless in emergency and I didn't quite class this as an emergency. I had a thought that MAYBE I might have nursing scissors in my bag (left in the car as I had worked on Monday) and when I went in the bag found that I didn't have scissors but I did have my paring knife used to prep stuff for dinners at work. I HOPED it would work... thankfully it did. I cut away the piece of plastic from the car (trying not to puncture the tire and still make sure I cut enough of the plastic away that I could drive and the remainder wouldn't rub against the tire while driving and cause a flat tire. So I was on my way again.

Once reaching the border city I headed to the bank only to get out of the car and find that the bank didn't have an accessible ATM from the outside of the building (ya I was a little pissed at this point!). I get back in the car and headed for the border - figured that I would just grab american money in the US when I went to a Walmart or something. Once I get almost to the bridge to go across I reached for the passport folder to find out that it was MISSING from the door. Man was I shitting myself!!! I FREAKED!!!!!!!!!!! In the folder I had MY passport, hubby's passport, hubby's nexus card, daughter's birth certificate, and son's birth certificate. If you add that all up it equals approx. $400 --------------> FUCK ME NOW was all I was thinking!!!! I KNEW that if I didn't find where the hell these went hubby would have my head and rightly so!!!

I pulled over to the side of the road immediately and searched the driver's side door and beside & under my seat but didn't find it. Now I was racking my brain about where the folder could have gone. The two places I had opened the car door had been at the bank and when I stopped when I hit something.... man was I hoping that the folder was in the parking lot at the bank because if it wasn't there was NO WAY IN HELL that I was going to find it on the side of the road (the folder was black), in the dark and it was raining.... YA I WAS FUCKED!!! So off I went to the bank to HOPEFULLY find it at the bank.

When I pulled into the bank parking lot I didn't pull right into the spot but let the headlights shine so that I might see the folder.... nope it wasn't there. At this point I was almost in tears! I was desperate. I was praying that somehow I hadn't looked hard enough in the car and so I got out again, this time on my hands and knees and REALLY searched the car... someone was looking over me because THANKFULLY I found the folder.

I got back in my car and thanked GOD that I had found it - under the chair but tucked in on the side. Off I went to cross the border, which was quick and painless.

Now you would think that that would be enough that happened to me but I'm not done yet. Unfortunately it's 3am ATM and I should head to bed - we're celebrating little tyke's b-day tomorrow with hubby's family and I'm pretty sure they don't want me to head for a nap tomorrow so stay tuned for the rest of my story. It's craziness!

Damn you daddy

So my daughter's fourth birthday is around the corner - as in next Saturday. Since JANUARY my mom has had vacation planned for her to come to US to celebrate little tyke's birthday... so here's how our conversation went the other night...

Online chatter -
mom messaging me - "u there"
me - "ya, but why r u up at 1:30 am?! And why the hell didn't you do my farmville2 tonight like we talked about" (thinking in my head - why the hell didn't u do my farmville 2 like we discussed earlier!!!)
mom - "just got back from the hospital for your dad"
me - "holy shit, I'm calling"

now me using the phone knowing I won't wake anyone up and have anyone yelling at me for calling at such a gawd awful time of night
me - 'what the hell happened?"
mom - "well your father broke his foot"
me - "how the hell did he manage that one?!" - now let me preface this by saying that my father can do some interesting things and manage to hurt himself - he fell off a roof of a house and broke his pelvis (know where you have the 'o' space in your pelvis on both sides? well my dad managed to hair break his bone in two places from the 'o' space outwards
mom - "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell he was putting away the groceries that I brought home and he had a hot flash (dad's going through the change of life just like my mom) and he was holding a ketchup bottle and dropped it and because of the hot flash lost his balance and sorta tripped over the bottle and fell on the ground.
me - "ok....." - thinking to myself how the HELL does ANYONE (besides ppl with osteoporosis) manage to break their foot by falling from a standing position
mom - "and it started to swell but he took a couple of tylenol and went back to work, when he got home he was in a ton of pain and the foot was super swollen and it was black & blue all over so I took him to the ER
me - "so I'm assuming he thought it was a sprain like most ppl would think huh?!"
mom - "yep and when we went to the ER that's all they thought too at first. We had a x-ray done but that didn't show anything conclusive so they did a CT scan and that showed the fracture.
me - "typical dad, requiring a CT scan to show that he's broken it, can't just do anything straight up"
mom - "nope, so now he has to go to the orthopedic specialist sometime next week. They have him in a soft cast and told him to not put any pressure on it. He's a cripple ATM and so I can't come down for Mini me's birthday next week"
me - (pretty close to yelling) "ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME??????????!!!!!!!!!!! We've been planning this for FOUR months now and you're going to cancel on me because dad can't take care of himself?! Have his mommy take care of him for the weekend while you're down here, she only lives down the street!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
mom - girly you need to calm down, I'll see what I can do but no promises.....

ERRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG - damn you dad! Way to ruin my time with my mom (and if you're all wondering why my mom just can't bring crippled dad, it's because he can't sit in the car long enough for the drive because of his previous pelvis fracture screwed up his ability to sit on his ass in a vehicle long enough to come down here. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I still haven't broken it to my daughter that her precious nana might not be coming down for her birthday - how do you get a 4 yr old to understand it without breaking her little heart?!

Planning a vacation....

Hubby works at a manufacturing plant for drinks (they make tetra packs of juice sort of thing and like gatorade and coca cola drinks) and works in the lab - and they decided to tell him today that in ONE week, they're going to close the plant for a week....

So now I get to plan us a get away!!! And where did I plan to go you ask???

Well great wolf lodge sort of place - indoor water park - YAY!!!

Little tyke will be UBER excited, she LOVES swimming and anything water related so this will certainly be right up her alley. And when I mentioned it to hubby he signed on board.

Now I just have to wait a week to go. OOOOOOoooooo I can't wait. I love water parks, they're fun!

It also includes the night away and dinner and breakfast so I'm looking forward to that as well.

Now to just get some of this course work finished and submitted.... off I go to do that then

Happy new years - tho belated

To those who read, happy new years, even if it is belated.

I've been working hard and hardly working. What I mean by that is that I worked for christmas and then from Dec. 29 til Jan 8th I was off and boy was it glorious!!!

During the POT I was able to head home for some R&R, family style! And let me tell you, it was woderful! At least for the most part. I got into a massive fight with the 11yr old (hello hormones teen style!) and he decided he wanted to go back to A-hole's, so that's exactly what I did.... and we didn't see each other for the rest of the visit that I was home for. Hurt my feelings, but hey, that's what he's doing almost all the time these days, I should be used to it. Though I'm not. Totally sucks, but I have to be "adult" about it and not let it bother me long term. Not having great success at this one. Sometimes I just want to take a step back and be like "contact me when you turn 18" but I don't want to abandon him, even though he already believes that I did when I moved here. UGH!!!!

When I returned to work I was given a wonderfully relaxed assignment. It was heavenly! It was funny monday evening when we had a RT come and do an assessment for one of the unit pt's and I made the comment that neurology was the best unit, and she agreed. Her reason was different from my own (we have *unique* nurses here) when she indicated that the nurses on neuro don't complain about their floor and the difficulty of their pt's. My response to her, "ya, because we're just so used to how rediculously heavy our pt load is and it isn't going to change so why moan and groan about it". Ya, she certainly didn't disagree with me, and neither did the other two nurses that were having the converstaion with us!

Coming back here sucked though, I hate living in this house. It's insanely difficult to get any studying/reading done, the 3yr old is NEVER being taken care of by the extended family and therefore I don't see the benefits of living all under one roof anymore. I WANT TO MOVE!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, hubby doesn't agree and so it's the bane of conversations with him.

He knows how miserable I am living here, however he's not willing to move out. He figures I should just deal. Thing is, is that when we moved here the thought was only that we would live with them for a year and that we would either move out or buy a MUCH bigger house. Neither of which has occured.

I'm done, I don't know how else to put it or what else I can say to hubby to get him on board with what I need (not want). ERG!!! Well I guess I've ranted enough, til next time - peace out!

I'm coming home

I came home today. It was SUPER sad to leave my son and my mom. I loved having the two weeks away but as always, it was nice to come home. The two weeks FLEW by (doesn't it always?!)

Tomorrow I'm back at the grind. I have to get back into super study mode. I'm set to do my exam for sunday. I have to work Thurs, Fri, Sat evenings. It's always interesting to see the unit after quite a bit of time off because there's hardly anyone there that was when you went off. You start back at the beginning.

Speaking of beginning, I am starting there again with my work outs. I'm going back to the gym starting tomorrow. As soon as hubby gets back from work, then I'll leave to go to the gym. I need to loose some of this weight that I have that's not very healthy. Ahhhhhh to have goals!!!

Home with Family

I've been away for almost 2 weeks. I've come to my hometown to hang with family and see my kiddo. I LOVED going out to the cottage and being able to fully relax, to go swimming, having a campfire and just being able to be with family and good friends.

I have been too relaxed, I haven't done much studying.... and when I get back home on Monday I have to begin testing out on my courses. First up is Nursing care for the childbearing family, and the other one is Mental health aspects of nursing practice. I have to study more for the OB one cuz let me tell you, there is a LOT of stuff covered in that course!!!

One of the good things about coming back is that I get to travel thru Michigan (in the US).... and get to do a TON of shopping!!! YAY SHOPPING!!! When I go back home I have to stop and shop again, I'm trying to find a nursing outfit that I like... I found the bottoms but the top I HAD found was sold by the time I got back to the store. AND my credit card was cancelled by the company I got it from because they thought there was fraudulent activity, ya it was me trying to use it on my vacation!!!! GRRRR Thankfully I have a back up CC cuz I would seriously be up a creek without a paddle!!!

My brother & SIL are pregnant right now - approx. 34 weeks. I'm so excited for them, they've had difficulty getting pregnant. They've been trying for 3 yrs now so it's nice to see that they're going to have a child. This sunday my mom's throwing a baby shower for them. My mom bought them a travel system (stroller & car seat together) that cost sooooo much money!!! When I was preggo with my daughter, she bought me one as well and a whole whack load of baby supplies. She didn't buy the other stuff for them so I hope that they don't complain. The reason why she didn't buy the other stuff was because my travel system cost half of what theirs does. Oh what ppl would assume when they don't know the details!!! Oh well, we shall see.

My bestie and I have been able to hang a whole bunch - LOVE HER! and last night we went to her mommie's house to grab some stuff out of her garden... so tonite I'm having fresh carrots and beets from their garden. OOOOOO I cannot wait, it's going to be so yummy! Maybe I'll have to get a few pictures to post for next time.

Family & School

So I know that I don't talk about school that often, it's just that I haven't been really motivated to get much of it done. Doing school work from a distance is tricky with ADHD, however, I've managed to get 4 courses read and notes done, now it's time to challenge exam them.

On Sunday, my daughter and I head up to my hometown to spend some time with family and darling son. I'm looking forward to it but also dreading it a bit. I've run into some drama which has made me dread going up....

My son will be 11 in November, the court agreement indicates that I get him for the summer. This year, though, his father manipulated him (IMO) and had him indicate to me that he only wanted to spend 4 weeks (out of 10) with me. I was hurt but I allowed this to occur. Especially considering his father said that I was abusing him (my son) by indicating that his decision hurt my feelings and that I didn't want it to occur.

I made plans to go to my hometown in like April, not that I told my son or his father any of this (non of their business IMO) for the end of August, because I was going to surprise kiddo with the trip to hang with Nana & Papa while he was still with me - but that got taken away from me.

Now under the court agreement, I'm supposed to get him for the entire time that I'm in my hometown but instead I have to give my son to his asshole father for 3 days - there's so much more drama besides this but whatever. I always have to give up time, it's frustrating and hurtful.

Another thing has to do with my bestie and my mom, if either came to my area, it would be expected that I take time off from my job in order to spend time with them, but the same thing isn't being done when I go to my hometown.

My bestie, I can sympathize with (even though it saddens me) because her job doesn't have enough nurses to accomodate her getting time off unless it's vacation (and even then she still has to fight them to have it), but with my mom there's really no reason.

She works at a grocery store and there's TONS of younger and less senior ppl under her that she can tell them she wants a couple of days off. It's not like my parents are hurting for money or anything. I even told my mom that it felt like I had to pay her to stay off from her work. My mom takes 4 wks of vacation during the summer - 2 wks to go to HER bestie's cottage and then 2 wks for all of her friends to go to HER cottage.... and I figured that I would come during the last half of her vacation so that I can see her friends and mom and then another week where her and I can hang out, without having her have to go to work. But this isn't the case. This has been this way my ENTIRE life, why would I expect anything different to happen? She told me like 2 months ago, that if I were to go up to my hometown, that she would take time off to spend with me... and then when I tell her that that's what I would like her to do, she tells me no way.

When I called her and cried because it was hurting my feelings so much, she FINALLY said that she would try to see what she could do.... I guess we'll see when I go up on Sunday.

I'm about to start my nursing courses for my pre-req to get into the program - I'm looking forward to going and spending some leisurely time, swimming and studying cuz when I return, I have to challenge four courses -
* Nursing care for the childbearing family
* Nursing care for the adult
* Nursing care for the child and family
* Nursing care for mental health (something like that)

While I'll be studying these, I also figure that I'll be studying to take my NCLEX-PN since I also have to take this when I return (probably at the end of September, beginning of October) seeing that I'm trying to get my license in Michigan in case we decide to move to the states.

Vacation was interesting

So we went to Club Bucanero just outside of Santiago de Cuba. The surrounding area was spectacular, there's moutain ranges all surrounding the resort and on the one side is the ocean. And let me tell you, the ocean was always RIGHT next to us, it was BEAUTIFUL. The resort boasts about having EVERY room having an ocean view, except ours because we were right in front of the tennis court (that they didn't even have equipment for!)

What wasn't beautiful about this place was the food!!! Now, we don't expect much as we recognize that it's cuba, and this island is notorious for having bland food but even the quality of food prepared was TERRIBLE. Since we went last year to cuba, we were prepared for awful food and we brought a bag of our own spices and I also brought aunt jemima pancake mix and real maple syrup. The food was SOOOOOOOO bad that I had to make pancakes for lunch or dinner FOUR times while we were there because the food was inedible or majority of it was pork. Even the fruit that they had was mostly inedible. One of their saving graces was that they had freshly prepared bread and fresh churned butter, available at every meal.

We knew ahead of time that there wasn't much of a beach, but that there was excellent snorkeling there. And for the week that we were there, we only went snorkeling once, and even then, I was too busy talking to the friends that we made to actually do any snorkeling - hubby did tho and enjoyed it immensely. The pool that they had was nice tho, enjoyed it!

What we really enjoyed was renting the moped and going into the city. We got lost a couple of times but it was fun to try to figure out the city and where we needed to go. Heck, we even found a zoo!!!! And it wasn't even that bad to boot. They had a lot of monkeys and one had even had a baby recently and it was ADORABLE!!!. I need to learn how to put video on here and I would show you how adorable the baby monkey was. SOOOOOOOOO cute. One day we also went to the other direction and found us the acquarium and got to pet dolphins - unfortunately due to money issues they don't have fish everyday and only do dolphin swims on fridays and hubby and I got into a fight that day and I didn't want to hang with him so I didn't get a chance to swim with them. But I'm still happy I got to see them up close and touch them (a dream of mine). The pictures are in the other computer so I'll have to post them later.

Although we enjoyed the vacation, the food really ruined it, we wouldn't go back there because of it but I'm still glad that we experienced it.

Alot to post about

I do have several posts I want to do... one has to do with our vacation, second one has to do with little tyke turning 3 and the last one has to do with an event that happened at work between one of my favorite Drs and an on-call Dr. So stay turned, if I have time I may get them all done back to back.

Vacation here we come!!!!

Today is the day that hubby and I go on vacation.... SOLO - sans children or family or anyone that knows us and I CANNOT WAIT!!!

Where are we going you ask.....

Unfortunately our beach won't look THAT nice, but that's ok... it's only a short distance away.

Where we're going is here....

Here's a pic of the front entrance of the resort...

The name of oour resort is Club Bucanero. It's a 3.5 star rated place. We're brining our own spices, ketchup, mayo, and peanut butter since these are in short supply there. And according to trip advisor they don't taste like what we expect them to.

And this is what I plan on doing while I'm there... sipping on some fresh coconut juice and sitting under some sun.

Last year we went to Cuba as well, but I didn't get to love me some sun because I was taking Accutane - a med for acne that makes one photosensitive and I BURNED unless I had a LAYER of visible sunscreen (60 SPF btw) on my skin. It was soooo bad that I had water blisters and my skin peeled from my shoulders all the way down to my fingers. This year I'm hoping to lay under the sun (still with SPF 60 on me, don't want melanoma thank you very much!) or swim in the pool or snorkel in front of our resort and love me some coral reef.

Hoping to meet some nice people while we're away like we did last year - Tina & Bonnie. I also want to do some adventuring, we're going to rent two mopeds for a couple of days (maybe even a week) and explore the near by city (25ish km) which is the 2nd largest city in Cuba, it's called Santiago de Cuba. We're supposed to lift off at 1530hrs and hubby said that he'll bring us somewhere for lunch before we go. OH I'M SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED (as if you couldn't tell!)

I'll try to post some pics when I return. Hope everyone has a great week while I'm off enjoying myself some sun and warm water.
